Grant Guidelines
The PA Woodward Foundation is dedicated to advancing healthcare and improving the lives of British Columbians. To ensure our funding is impactful and sustainable, 60% of our annual grants are allocated to Core Funding initiatives, with the remaining 40% directed toward Step-Change projects.
We prioritize underserved communities, particularly those outside the Greater Vancouver area, to help equalize access to healthcare resources. Additionally, we strive to support charities with limited funding and capacity, recognizing their challenges in securing much-needed donations.
New for 2026 / 2027!
To coincide with the 75th Anniversary of the Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Woodward Foundation, an extraordinary province-wide funding opportunity to strengthen clinical training, patient safety, and competency through simulation equipment: $1.5 million to be awarded to hospitals and educational institutions throughout the province where medical professionals receive training. See information below.
Core Program Funding
The PA Woodward Foundation is dedicated to advancing the health and well-being of British Columbians by supporting projects with a direct and measurable impact on patient care. Guided by the Founders’ vision to prioritize proven and innovative techniques over fundamental research or administration, the Foundation focuses on:
Funding medical equipment of proven effectiveness that directly benefits patients.
Supporting clinical activities that drive meaningful change and improve patient outcomes.
Advancing healthcare programs through the procurement of new equipment that will improve and advance care, as opposed to simply replacing equipment.
The Foundation generally does not fund:
Routine operational budgets
Basic science research unrelated to patient care
Conferences or annual meetings (or travel to the same)
Endowments
Capital building costs or renovations

$1.5 Million in Medical Simulation Equipment
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Mr. and Mrs. P.A. Woodward Foundation, the Foundation is announcing a special funding initiative for medical simulation equipment, including high-fidelity mannequins, virtual reality (VR), and task trainers.
We are accepting application from hospitals and educational institutions throughout the province where medical professionals receive training.
Total funding available: $1.5 million
Purpose: Purchase of simulation equipment to support simulation-based education
Who can apply: Educational institutions and hospitals in B.C. where medical professionals receive training.
Simulation-based training is now an integral part of medical education—transforming how healthcare professionals learn and practice. This anniversary investment will enhance patient safety, strengthen clinical competency, and reduce medical errors by enabling professionals to practice in a risk-free environment.
Step-Change Program Funding
The Step-Change Program focuses on innovative approaches to healthcare delivery and access with the potential to transform systems and create lasting, meaningful change. Applications are evaluated based on their potential for direct patient impact and outcomes.
We are particularly interested in projects that demonstrate a high likelihood of success and introduce creative, forward-thinking solutions. Areas of focus include:
Revolutionary Technologies and Cutting-Edge Treatments: Advancements that enhance diagnostics, treatment, or healthcare access.
Innovative Delivery Models: Initiatives like telemedicine, mobile clinics, or community-based health programs that improve access to care.
Breakthrough Healthcare Models: Solutions inspired by global best practices or developed locally within British Columbia or Canada to increase access and improve outcomes.
The Step-Change Program is designed to fund projects that go beyond short-term fixes and aim to create long-lasting improvements in healthcare systems.
